Flotation and destruction was a site specific installation comprised by a selection of thirty buoys from the salmon aquaculture industry of the Chiloé archipelago (Chile). These were dumped directly on the ground, or hanged at different heights, in an old industrial storehouse located in the Independencia area of Santiago (Chile).

The focus is put on those monumental scale buoys that have been eroded by water and living creatures, until they are no longer useful because of fatigue and fracture. The installation as an experience condenses the passing of time reflected in diverse buoy models that during their destruction processes, have liberated microplastic particles (polyethylene and expanded polystyrene) contaminating the beaches, sea bottom, and wildlife that compose the local ecosystem.

Flotation and destruction is an installation that promotes new dynamics of appreciation and value, about what we assume as natural in its artificial boundary.
