Neighborhood Meeting #40 was an installation specifically created for Galería Gato. It consists of a wall containing 133 fragments of painted walls removed from the facades of houses and shops in Santiago, Chile. Each fragment was placed 30 cm apart from the others on a gridded wall surface measuring 442 × 425 cm.
The work constitutes an exercise in abstraction that reflects the colors and materials found on the facades of buildings in the city center. In each version produced from 2012 to the present, the fragments have been arranged on a grid alluding to the Hippodamian street plan applied in central Santiago: a traditional model of urban planning that organizes the city through streets laid out at right angles and, consequently, city blocks.
In turn, Neighborhood Meeting is a title used as a metaphor for community organization and for individuals who are not considered until they come together and manifest themselves as a collective.
